Bethel's Best Country Cookin'
During the pastorate of Barbara Stiles at Bethel, the women's circle made a project
of gathering recipes that were popular at Bethel's covered dish dinners, and many others, for
a Recipe Book. Much effort went into the project: gathering, selecting, typing and organizing
until December of 1993 when the 153 page book with 260 recipes of all types (Appetizers, Beverages,
Poultry, Breads, Cakes and Candies, etc) was "published". Though there has been occasional talk
about "updating" the book, it remains the only version that ever made it to print.

On this 30th Anniversary of that Cookbook we don't have an "updated" or reproduced version of the
book to offer, but we have put together some "Indexes" to help (re)introduce those recipes to all
and make the recipes more easily accessible for those who have a full copy of the original Cookbook.
The indexes are as follows:
- Cookbook Contents: which provides a list of all pages in
the cookbook. The recipes are grouped by section and located by the cookbook page number and the
sequence (1,2,..) of the recipe on the page. The source of each recipe is also indicated.
- Index of Recipes: which provides an alphabetical
list of all of the recipes. They are located by Section, Cookbook Page and sequence on the page.
The source of each is also shown.
- Index of Sources: which provides an alphabetical
list of all recipe "Sources" with their recipes listed alphabetically.
- Index by Source and Section: which
provides an alphabetical list of Sources with their recipes grouped by type (section) and
alphabetically within its section.
For those interested, the 1994 Photo
Directory has pictures of many of the ones who were "Sources" for these recipes.
Note: In at least some of the cookbooks (perhaps all) the recipes on p.106 duplicated the
ones on p.108 and the ones that were identified for p.106 in the index were omitted from the
cookbook. The indexes above make note of this anomaly...fyi.these recipes are included in the
collection described below.
Another View of the Recipes
Several years ago an attempt was made to re-create the Recipe Book in a different style. The
recipes were shown enclosed in "frames" or boxes and were regrouped into different "Sections".
Documents were prepared for each of the sections but were never combined into a single "Book".
The lines below allow you to view each of the "Sections" whose "Pages" are numbered at the bottom.

There are indexes to these similar to the "indexes" created for the 1993 Printed Cookbook. They
are listed below. As there is not a uniform sequence of page numbers spanning the entire
collection, the recipe locations are given by the Section Name, Section Page and Sequence on the
page.
