Our Pastor: George Dwight Potter

George grew up in Tallahassee, FL, where he graduated from Leon High School and attended Westminster Presbyterian Church. He has served as a merchant seaman on the MV Guadalupe, attended Portland State University where he studied Biology (Pre-med) and Sociology, and attended Tallahassee Community College where he received EMT and Paramedic Certificates. He has worked EMS in Wakulla, Franklin, Gadsden Counties and in Madison and TMH ERs. He earned a BS degree in Psychology and MS degree in Instructional Systems from Florida State University and founded George D. Potter and Associates.

George attended License to Preach School at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, FL in 1994 and has served part-time appointments in the Florida Conference as pastor at Lamont UMC in 1994-2005 and at Bethel UMC from 2005 to the present. During the time of these appointments he served as Chaplain at Wakulla Correctional Institution, Faith Based Dorm Program and currently serves as a Drug Abuse Counselor at the Gadsden Corrections Facility, Mayo Correctional Institution and Non-secure Programs Inc. in Tallahassee. George has also served as the Disaster Relief Coordinator for the Northwest District of the Florida Conference and is currently the District UMVIM Coordinator.

George resides with wife Shirley and their kitty Snowflake in the parsonage of Bethel UMC.
