This
Twenty-Fourth Sunday after Pentecost brings us to the end of the post-Pentecost
season of the Christian year. The traditional emphasis for this Sunday is "
Christ the King",
acknowledging that He is the one to whom we owe and pledge our allegiance, dedication, following
and devotion...attentions which people are too frequently moved to direct toward leaders or
persons in this
world. This day reminds us that Christ, as the most relatable presence of the triune God in our
world, is to be the sole object of these "gifts" from us.
Of course, this Sunday also directs our attention to the civil holiday of
Thanksgiving on
Thursday.
That day has meant historically, and continues today, to be a time for family and acquaintances to
come together peacefully to celebrate and share the bounty of provisions and joys that have come
into their lives during the year...and to thank God for bringing them.
Click on the graphics at the top of this page for additional information on these
observances.

You may have noticed in the heading for this service that the day is celebrated both for
"
Christ the King" and for the "
Reign of Christ". The "
Worship Planning Notes provided by UMC Discipleship
Ministries for today (on the Resource Page) describes the reason for this dual identification.
NOTE: Each part of this online service consists of an audio file and,
for most, a Link to a pdf file of "projection slides". Click on the
symbol to play the audio file under a separate
browser tab or in a new window. Then select the "Bethel 11/20/22
Service" browser tab or return to this window to open the Link to
the "slides". It is best to stop the playing of one Audio segment and close
its tab or window before starting another.
We hope that you will fully participate in the service provided here, taking
the time to raise your voice or read along with the hymns and responses, and
listening to the recorded messages and songs that have been prepared for you.
Realize that, though not meeting face-to-face, you are virtually gathering with
many others for this time of worship, celebration and spiritual refreshment.
