Twenty-Second Sunday after Pentecost
All Saints Sunday
November 6, 2022

This Twenty-Second Sunday after Pentecost comes on the first Sunday of November, so Communion will be a part of the service in the church and in this online service. It is also the first Sunday after All Saints Day which is always celebrated on November 1. Methodists join with others in designating this Sunday after All Saints Day as "All Saints Sunday", a day for remembering those who have passed since last year's observance.

The week ahead also has two "special days" on the civil calendar. Tuesday is Election Day for the mid-term Election of local and legislative officials. We are fortunate to live in a country in which governmental and religious practices are permitted and allowed (even required) to be separated, but all are encouraged to take part in the selection of those officials, allowing their faith to become a part of the process.

Friday, November 11, is also Veterans Day, a day set aside to honor all those who have honorably served in a U.S. military service, in distiction from Memorial Day which remembers those who have fought and died in military service.

Click on the "Bethel United Methodist Church" script above
for links to some Resource materials for today's service.

NOTE: Each part of this online service consists of an audio file and, for most, a Link to a pdf file of "projection slides". Click on the symbol to play the audio file under a separate browser tab or in a new window. Then select the "Bethel 11/06/22 Service" browser tab or return to this window to open the Link to the "slides". It is best to stop the playing of one Audio segment and close its tab or window before starting another.

We hope that you will fully participate in the service provided here, taking the time to raise your voice or read along with the hymns and responses, and listening to the recorded messages and songs that have been prepared for you. Realize that, though not meeting face-to-face, you are virtually gathering with many others for this time of worship, celebration and spiritual refreshment.

  • Verse - Prelude/Processional - "Sing Alleluia to the Lord"
In a return to Pre-Covid practice, acolytes are bringing light to the candles on the altar to open this time of Worship.

  • Slides - Welcome and Announcements (04:41)

  • Opening Hymn
Verses - "We'll Understand it Better By and By" (UMH 525)
    :
Here is another hymn for this day, from Charles Wesley:
Verses - "Come, Let Us Join Our Friends Above" (UMH 709)

  • Slides - Call to Worship & Affirmation of Faith (02:58)
We hope that you will participate privately or communally in this responsive reading as part of your worship service.

  • OT Scripture Reading: "Psalm 98" (02:01)
......consider following along with a favored translation of your own.

  • Slides - Pastor's Thoughts, Prayers and Lord's Prayer (13:13)
The slides here include a list of those for whom prayers have been requested.

  • Message: "God Is?" (20:04)
The scripture referenced for today's message is Luke 20:27-39. You may wish to follow it in your own Bible. (The "Church" message on this day, with the same topic, will be on the "Sermons" page of Bethel's web site later this week.)

  • About - Holy Communion (02:29)
It has been customary to use consecrated crackers and grape juice during the service but you may use other elements for the acts of remembrance as you participate. During the time of "social distancing", the church service has used individual packets for communion taken in the pews. The service is now using more traditional bread and juice for communion taken at the altar but also offers the communion packets and provides for communion to be taken in the pew.

  • Closing Hymn:
Verse - "He is Lord" (UMH 177, 2 reps)

  • Closing Chorus & Benediction:
    Verse - "Bind Us Together"

Thank you for coming. Our prayer will be that we will soon all gather again for worship in Bethel's Sanctuary, but until then we'll be here for you on Sunday morning.
